When one envisions Paris, the mind immediately wanders to the Seine, its elegant bridges, and its iconic monuments. Yet, the capital can also be unveiled through an intricate network of rivers and canals, offering a refreshing and sophisticated perspective on the city.

Through a Paris river cruise, leisurely quayside strolls, or scenic bicycle rides along the banks, the Seine, the Marne, and the Parisian canals invite you to explore a more serene and often secret side of Paris.

The Seine: An Essential Experience

As the beating heart of Paris, the Seine flows through the capital, weaving together its most illustrious landmarks—from the Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Louvre Museum to the majestic Eiffel Tower.

Among the quintessential experiences offered to our guests, sightseeing cruises and gourmet dinner cruises stand out. They allow you to admire the “City of Light” as it illuminates the night sky, all while enjoying a refined moment on board. It remains one of the most enchanting ways to behold the capital’s architectural masterpieces from the unique vantage point of the river.

The Marne: A Verdant Escape at the Gates of Paris

Only a few kilometers from the lively center of Paris, the Marne River offers a tranquil and lush atmosphere.

The banks of the Marne are storied for their guinguettes—traditional riverside taverns where Parisians have flocked for relaxation since the 19th century. Master painters such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Claude Monet famously immortalized this bucolic ambiance in their masterpieces.

Today, it remains the idyllic setting for a cycling excursion, a private boat outing, or a sophisticated day trip away from the urban bustle.

The Parisian Canals: A Different Face of the Capital

The canals of Paris offer another authentic way to experience the city’s soul and alternative Paris river cruise :

The Canal Saint-Martin: Perhaps the most iconic, with its historic locks, charming footbridges, and vibrant quaysides.

The Canal Saint-Denis: To the north, this waterway bears witness to the region’s industrial heritage and contemporary transformation.

The Canal de l’Ourcq: Highly prized for its long cycling paths and refreshing waterside promenades.

These navigable waterways allow travelers to discover a more local, contemporary Paris, far from the well-trodden tourist paths.

Explore Paris Differently

To discover the capital from the water is to see the city in a new light. Whether through a private Seine cruise, a stroll along the hidden canals, or an escape to the banks of the Marne, these fluvial itineraries are essential experiences for anyone wishing to truly master the art of Parisian travel.

You may already have been tentatively Googling destinations for your upcoming vacation. Though there are endless places to choose from, at Paris-toujours we firmly believe that Paris is always a good idea.

Travel to Paris : Charming Whatever the Season

If you’re planning to travel to Paris, there are a lot of things to consider. As with any vacation, you’ll want to know what the weather is like in Paris, so you know what to pack.

Like New York or London, the weather in Paris can vary drastically depending on the year, reaching as high as 90°F (35°C) in the summer, and sometimes dropping to 32°F (0°C) in January or February.

The great thing about Paris though, is that is really is charming whatever the weather. If you’re traveling to Paris in the winter, wrap up warm and stroll through streets adorned with twinkling Christmas lights. And there are plenty of reasons to visit Paris in the summer too, from city beaches to bike rides around the grounds of Versailles.

And that’s without even mentioning some of the best ice cream you’ve ever tried… Even a wet day won’t spoil your Paris getaway: there are plenty of fun rainy-day activities in Paris.

Fabulous Food, and Oodles of Culture

Let’s face it: you just can’t beat Paris for delicious food. Sure, there are expensive, Michelin-starred restaurants, which you should definitely try at least once in your life.

But the great thing about Paris is that even in a basic corner bistrot, brasserie, or boulangerie, you’re probably going to get a decent meal (or just a croissant to snack on between sight-seeing stops). Our advice? Just stay away from the top tourist spots (Saint Michel, or up by the Sacré Coeur in Montmartre), and you’ll be impressed.

As for culture, Paris has an estimated 130 museums within its city limits. Whether you fancy strolling past statues at the Louvre, inspecting Impressionist paintings at the Musée d’Orsay, or mooning over modern art at the Centre Pompidou, Paris has you covered.

For something more unusual, why not check out the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature for stuffed animals kids will enjoy gawking at, or the oldest museum in the world, the Musée des Arts et Metiers (arts and crafts)?

And it’s not just museums, of course! From outdoor film screenings, to theatre, to live music, Paris has no end of treats to whet your cultural appetite, and make your Paris holiday one you’ll never forget.

Something for Everyone

If museums and delicious food don’t get you excited, don’t write Paris off just yet. It’s a vibrant city, with plenty going on, so with a little research you’ll find that there really is something for everyone.

Unusual things to do in Paris include exploring the macabre catacombs, learning to ballroom dance in the Jardin Tino Rossi, and even just strolling trendy neighborhoods on the hunt for street art.

Need a little help finding off-the-beaten-track, unusual Paris activities? At Paris-toujours, we’ve organized cooking classes, treasure hunts, and even tours to help you take the best selfies in Paris and hoover up some Insta-likes.

Inspiration for Your next Paris Holiday

While you might not be ready to commit to booking your Paris holiday just yet, that means you have more time to research, make plans, and get excited. In the meantime, why not check out our day tours and sample custom-made itineraries for some inspiration to travel to Paris ?

In 2026, France – and especially Paris, Normandy, and the Île-de-France region – invites you on a unique artistic and sensory journey. From Giverny to Rouen, from Auvers-sur-Oise to Honfleur, follow in the footsteps of the painters who forever changed the history of art.

2026: A Year Dedicated to Monet and Impressionism

December 2026 marks the centenary of Claude Monet’s passing, and France is preparing an extraordinary tribute to the iconic figure of Impressionism.

An exceptional cultural programme awaits: world-class exhibitions, immersive itineraries, festivals, and guided tours across the most emblematic Impressionist sites.

Between Normandy and Île-de-France, more than 50 Impressionist landmarks will open their doors to celebrate this internationally beloved artistic movement.

This anniversary will also be an opportunity to rediscover the artists who inspired or accompanied Monet – Boudin, Daubigny, Renoir, Sisley, Pissarro, Degas, Morisot, Caillebotte – and even Van Gogh, whose spirit still resonates across these landscapes, along with today’s contemporary creators.

Step into Hemingway’s Paris

During the Roaring Twenties, Paris was for Ernest Hemingway a city of light, brilliance, and excess. Between the lively streets of the Latin Quarter, the cafés of Montparnasse, and the bookshops frequented by the Lost Generation, the French capital was a hub of unparalleled artistic energy.
Even today, you can follow in his footsteps on a literary walking tour of Paris, where nostalgia meets inspiration.

Lunch at Polidor, a Historic Parisian Café

Begin your journey in Hemingway’s footsteps with lunch at Le Polidor, one of his favorite cafés.
Open since 1845, Le Polidor is one of the oldest bistros in Paris. With its wooden tables, timeworn mirrors, and timeless charm, it perfectly captures the bohemian spirit of the city’s writers. It’s easy to imagine Hemingway here, revising his manuscripts with a glass of red wine in hand, watching passersby through the café window.

Guided Tour of the Latin Quarter: In the Footsteps of the Lost Generation

Continue your guided tour of the Latin Quarter, the beating heart of intellectual life in the 1920s.
At Shakespeare and Company, founded in 1919 by Sylvia Beach — friend and publisher to many expatriate writers — Hemingway found both inspiration and community. It was here he met James Joyce, who completed his masterpiece Ulysses within these very walls.

A little further on lies Rue Mouffetard, where Hemingway lived in his first Paris apartment — a modest but intensely creative life.
Then, stop by Gertrude Stein’s apartment, the celebrated poet and patron whose salon brought together Picasso, Fitzgerald, Matisse, and many others. Stein encouraged Hemingway to leave journalism behind and devote himself entirely to fiction.

Following in the author’s spirit, wander through the local markets, soak up the neighborhood’s vibrant life, and let yourself be enchanted by the atmosphere of Old Paris — the one that inspired A Moveable Feast.

Guided Tour of Montparnasse: The Writers’ Haven

The two shared a passion for poetry and precision in writing.

End your visit at the legendary Closerie des Lilas, one of Montparnasse’s most iconic cafés. This was where Hemingway often met F. Scott Fitzgerald, discussing literature and life in America under the watchful eyes of local artists and thinkers.

Experience Paris Differently: A Unique Literary Journey

If you wish to discover Paris in a new and inspiring way, follow the trail of Ernest Hemingway with a tailor-made experience designed just for you.
From historic cafés to iconic bookshops and literary landmarks, this immersive journey takes you back to the Paris of the Roaring Twenties — a city of passion, creativity, and freedom.

If you’re drawn to art, curious to try new artistic experiences, or eager to explore artists’ studios, this tour by Paris-Toujours is made for you! Right in the heart of the Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighborhood, in Paris’s 6th arrondissement, come and meet artists and step into their creative worlds.

Visit of artists’ studios

In this culturally and historically rich district, you’ll find the studios of both emerging and internationally renowned artists. This tour offers a unique experience: visiting three studios in the presence of their respective artists for a moment of shared passion around art.

A charming, tiny studio near the Lutetia hotel, home to a portrait artist. She mainly works with oil and dry pastels, drawing inspiration from the great masters of classical painting.

A studio on the famous Rue de la Grande Chaumière. Though compact (as is often the case for Parisian artists!), it’s where an artist works with an uncommon medium: cardboard. She transforms this often-overlooked material into stunning works of art.

A magnificent studio on Rue Notre Dame des Champs, formerly occupied by Fernand Léger, who once established his Academy of Modern Art there.

Artistic experiences

If you’re in the mood to experiment, create, and learn new techniques alongside artists, a variety of original workshops are available by Paris-Toujours : painting with coffee (yes, really!), gold or silver leaf collage, discovering cyanotype (an early form of photography), or traditional gold leaf gilding. If nature inspires you, try a plein air painting class held in the Luxembourg Garden. There’s something for everyone!

Esther & Paul Gallery

Between Île de la Cité and the Luxembourg Garden lies the “Esther & Paul” gallery. Since October 2022, it has been located on the beautiful and historic Rue de l’Odéon. The gallery features carefully curated exhibitions of both contemporary and vintage artworks, showcasing a selection of emerging and talented artists.

A blend of “Mom” and “Vacation,” the Momcation is an empowering trend that encourages young mothers to take a well-deserved break—either solo or with friends—without children or partners. It’s a time dedicated entirely to themselves, free from obligations and daily routines. This uplifting movement is gaining momentum across social media platforms like Instagram, inspiring more and more women to hit pause and recharge.

Time to unwind. Time to recharge. Time just for you

Stepping away for a few days—or even weeks—just to focus on yourself: that’s the spirit of a Momcation. These breaks offer countless benefits for women who are ready to reclaim a bit of “me time” without the constant worry of what’s happening back home. While family life is deeply fulfilling, it can also be all-consuming, and many women find themselves putting their own needs last. A Momcation is a refreshing opportunity to enjoy true mental freedom—something that can be hard to find in everyday life.

Let’s face it: family vacations, while joyful, don’t always leave room for true relaxation. A solo escape allows for deeper exploration, quiet moments, new discoveries, and, above all, rest. And moms embracing the Momcation trend have clearly figured this out!

Let us plan it all for you

We know that even planning a getaway can feel like one more task on your never-ending list. That’s why Paris Toujours takes care of everything from A to Z, crafting a tailor-made itinerary just for you.
