Many footprints of the French Revolution in Paris remain to be seen in the streets. Along the centuries Paris has had tumultuous relationships with the Monarchy but has always remained the center of the Realm of France.  If Louis the XIV preferred Versailles , the revolutionists indeed ended up bringing the Royal Family back to Paris to imprison them. It is the whole Paris area which shows the imprint of the royal wealth and of the anti-monarchy struggles from the Middle-Age to the Revolution.

With this customizable itinerary, we will take you to the royal Paris, from the Tuileries and Le Louvre, to Versailles castle and Marie-Antoinette’s hamlet, La Conciergerie and other footprints several centuries of the French monarchy have left in the city and its surroundings. DAY 1

Arrival and lunch near the Quai des Augustins in a royal and gastronomic restaurant, followed by a private guided tour of the Conciergerie, where Marie-Antoinette was imprisoned during the French Revolution in Paris,  the Sainte Chapelle ,the Ile de la Cité and Notre Dame to rediscover the influence of the Monarchy and the role of the Comité de Salut Public during ‘La Terreur’.  Free time for dinner with suggestions followed by a Chamber Music Concert in a church.

DAY 2

After breakfast, pick-up at your accommodation by your chauffeur and start a full day in Versailles with your private expert guide for a visit of the castle including the King’s & Queen’s apartments, the gardens, Marie Antoinette’s hamlet and Trianon.

Lunch in the town of Versailles followed by a visit of the Potager du Roi (King’s kitchen garden) created by Jean-Baptiste de La Quintinie, an expert gardener and agronomist, and the French architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart in the 17th century as a place of  horticultural instruction and innovation. This full day at the heart of the French Monarchy will help you understand the role the Sun King played in France’s splendor but also the foundations of the future French Revolution in Paris and the Kingdom of France not even a century later.

DAY 3

Meet your private guide at your hotel and reach the Louvre museum for a guided tour of the masterpieces where you will learn about the successive transformations of the palace itself over the centuries under the reign of several Kings, then walk in the Tuileries gardens. Lunch in the Palais Royal area.

In the afternoon, your private driver will take you to the Basilique Saint Denis, magnificent religious building where the Kings of France are buried , from Dagobert the Merovingian (VII century) to the young Louis XVII, second child of Louis the XVI and Marie Antoinette; his heart is kept in the Bourbons Chapel. Free evening.

DAY 4

Self guided visit with audio guide in the Château de Vincennes and its beautiful Sainte Chapelle. You will have a great experience in the reconstituted office of the king Charles the Vth , a 3D model with all the furniture, immerging yourself in his daily life. Back to Paris for lunch in Le Marais area where the French Nobility of the XVII century used to reside. Free afternoon with some suggestions of nice walks. Free evening.
